AI won’t replace humans in IT and HR, but it can help them a lot

Artificial intelligence (AI) is seen by many as not only the future, but the end of a lot of jobs, including in IT. Actually, AI can help devs in many ways.

AI can be an aid to IT pros and HR. There are many possibilities to use this technology. For example, the obvious ones: teaching AI to write basic, repetitive and mundane code, leaving devs freed to do more complex things and only take a quick look at the finished code.

AI can also be employed to tackle basic network maintenance, act in the event of a cyber-attack and more. As for HRs, AI can help them find and recruit new people. AI can help analyze potential candidates and recruitment offers, tailor the choices to specific criteria.

“We see technology already in the mainstream, allowing recruiters to increase the value add that they have into the process, while ensuring anyone who doesn’t make the selection feels like they’ve been assessed and engaged with in a correct, professional way,” Martin Ewings, director of specialist markets at recruitment consultancy Experis says to ComputerWeekly. “You’re looking at three to five years before it’s totally adopted because there are still organisations reluctant to remove the human interaction side of things,” he adds.

AI can make the whole process of creating a shortlist much simpler and faster. It’s another way of automating repetitive tasks, freeing the employees to do other things. Of course, AI can’t be a guarantee that it will always pick the best candidates, but then again, neither is any human. But both can work together, teaming their strongest sides and qualities to change the way they recruit, choose and then manage employees.

“AI is coming but there will always be a human element and there has to be because it’s dealing with people. People are unpredictable and people change roles and look for different things throughout the process,” Andy Heyes, managing director of technology-focused recruitment firm Harvey Nash PLC says.

And then there are the trainings. With AI managers can analyze performance and forecasts to see what trainings they should provide for the IT teams. Choosing the right training and for who is always one of the biggest and most important challenges. AI can help with that, too. It can also be used to further improve the actual trainings and make them more efficient. The whole process of a training can be changed to reflect better the participants, their level of current knowledge and so on. The possibilities are definitely endless and it’s going to be quite interesting in the not so distant future.
